The City of Muskegon Heights is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Full-Time Fire Fighter.  This employee does fire fighting work in the protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing and preventing fires.  A fire fighter is responsible for rapid and efficient performance on specialized equipment under emergency conditions.  Although fire fighting, including equipment operation is most important to the work of the fire fighter, a large portion of their time is spent preparing to combat fires and maintaining fire station property and equipment.    Work is normally performed under close supervision and specific work assignments are given by a superior officer both in fighting fires and at the station.  A fire fighter is subject to call at any time in case of emergencies.  May be required to perform fire code and safety inspections.   Performs all other related work as required or assigned.

Position Salary $36,000.00 – 46,380.00.

(Benefits include defined contribution pension match up to 8%, paid sick and vacation)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Education – GED or higher, associates and up preferred, but not required
• Knowledge of computers required

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) and Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program operations

• Specialized knowledge in produce marketing, nutrition, program development or other applicable fields

• Leadership, fundraising, grants writing, problem solving, creative thinking, self-motivation, strong communicator and organizational skills

• Experience volunteering and engaging community

• Spanish speaking skills a plus but not required
